Our Second Grade classroom will be using many new methods of teaching. We will be doing many large projects that we, as a STEM team, have all had a hand in developing. We will be doing many collaborative lessons with our STEM program. Our Reading and Math curriculum will be developed by me, with the assistance of Cory Lee, our Math Specialist and Coutrney Anderson, our Reading Specialist. For the most part, these two subjects will be incorporated into science, engineering, or technology lessons. Our aim is to have our students doing a reading lesson without knowing that we are working on reading. Our Science curriculum will come from FOSS. This is a hands-on, inquiry based program that came very highly recommended by other STEM schools. Our Engineering will be a intergrated with our Science, Math, and Units we developed.
This combination or projected based learning, and the blending of subjects will result in higher student engagement, development of critical thinking skills, development of independence, choice based learning, and student ownership. I am very excited to start the year and promise to deliver a 5 star program to my students!
